Lecture
Abstract
This event
proposes a presentation on inclusive and ethical strategies for disseminating
health information using digital technologies, including AI. It highlights a
methodology developed by Professor Maria Cristiane Barbosa Galvão and employed
at the Brazilian Reference Center for Health Information (CBRIS – www.cbris.com.br). The CBRIS methodology focuses on vulnerable
populations and uses evidence-based strategies, social media, and undergraduate
student engagement to disseminate health information ethically and effectively.
It has already reached over one million people across multiple regions of both
the Global South and North. The initiative aims to strengthen knowledge
exchange, fostering innovation and equity in health communication.

About the speaker
Prof. Maria Cristiane Barbosa Galvão is a Professor at
Ribeirao Preto Medical School at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. She also teaches in the Graduate
Program in Information Science at the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil,
and is currently a visiting professor at the Prasanna School of Public
Health at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), India.
With over
30 years of academic experience, she has authored numerous peer-reviewed
articles, book chapters, and books in the fields of health information,
knowledge translation, digital inclusion, and vulnerable populations. She has
supervised undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students across disciplines,
contributing to the training of researchers and professionals in Brazil and
abroad.
Prof.
Galvão has led national and international research projects on health evidence
dissemination, socially responsible innovation, and frugal digital
technologies. She is the founder and coordinator of the Brazilian Reference Center for Health
Information (CBRIS),
the Global Digital Health Lab, and the Confluência Group, an interdisciplinary initiative
for exploring the intersection of information, technology, and vulnerable
populations.
An member
of ANCIB (the Brazilian Association for Information Science), she also serves
as a journal editor and peer reviewer for various national and international
journals. Her academic work is grounded in the ethical and transformative power
of information, with a strong commitment to health equity and public
engagement.
